Bijeljina is an educational, cultural, healthcare and tourist centre of northeast part of Republic Srpska and BiH, and the attractiveness of life in Bijeljina and Semberija is best illustrated by the fact that the population of the City increases by at least a thousand people every year.

Culture

Several multi-day cultural and entertainment manifestations are held in Bijeljina throughout a year. They attract a great number of local inhabitants as well as visitors of Bijeljina. The events are the following – St. Panteleimon Days, Višnjić Days, Comedy Days, May Music Festival and Beer Fest, and there are also numerous individual and cultural events organized by City Cultural Centre, City Library, theatre groups, artists' associations and local folklore organizations.

Recently constructed building of the Cultural Centre provides extraordinary conditions for performing any kind of cultural event, and considerable attention is paid to development of cultural creativity in rural areas, primarily through a support of the work of folk dance ensambles and by preserving the folk tradition.   

 

Leisure, Recreation and Entertainment

 In the vicinity of Bijeljina urban zone, there are several picnic spots, favourite to inhabitants of Semberija and their guests.  

 

In the vicinity of Bijeljina urban zone, there are several picnic spots, favourite to inhabitants of Semberija and their guests.  Certainly, the most famous place for relaxation and entertainment is the ethno village complex "Stanišići’’, at three kilometres from Bijeljina – an interesting combination of exact replicas of a Romanija Mountain village, medieval Serbian monasteries and Fortifications with entertainment, sports and recreational events, in addition to modern catering facilities. Swimming pools in Dvorovi and swimming zones of the river Drina are full of visitors in summer.

Recreationists can choose among a number of sport facilities available for doing sports, and Bijeljina is famous in the entire region for its nightlife and good entertainment at discos, clubs, coffee shops, pubs and cafes.

Education

Bijeljina offers young people excellent conditions of education at all levels – from preschool to postgraduate studies. With more than twenty faculties within the University of East Sarajevo and five private colleges, it has become a university centre; and with over 5,000 students it has rightfully been named the City of Youth, not only youth but well educated young people.

 

"Dvorovi" Spa Complex

At six kilometres from Bijeljina centre, there is Dvorovi Spa – health and recreational centre, built around a spring of healing thermal mineral water of 75 degrees Celsius, which successfully treats rheumatism, locomotor apparatus diseases, post-traumatic conditions after surgical treatment, peripheral nerve diseases... Within Dvorovi Bath, there are outdoor swimming pools filled with thermal water, facilities for sports and recreation, health and rehabilitation centre, a hotel, restaurants... 

 

Healthcare System

Health care of Bijeljina City population is administered by highly qualified specialists and medical staff at Bijeljina Health Centre, General Hospital "Sveti Vračevi", International Dialysis Centre and several privately owned medical centres, equipped with modern equipment. Construction of and equipping the new complex of General Hospital "Sveti Vračevi", along with expanding the network of outpatient clinics, i.e. developing a system of family medical care at the Health Centre; have altogether contributed to additional improvement of the healthcare system.
