Bijeljina’s investment opportunites for Chinese companies, projects that Chinese companies have been already implementing in the Republic of Srpska and BiH, situation in Semberija after the floods as well as the population’s needes for the assistance were the main topics of discussion between the Mayor of Bijeljina Mićo Mićić and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Dong Chunfeng who yesterday visited the Bijeljina.Chinese Ambassador pointed out that there are great possibilities and interests of both sides to enhance economic cooperation:- In Bijeljina, we are particularly interested in investing in agriculture and food production, for which there are excellent preconditions here. We will stay in touch because we are sure that cooperation in this and the other areas could be successful, the Ambassador said.Mayor Mićić said that the City of Bijeljina was especially interested in projects that were proposed by the Chinese companies - construction of highways, primarily highway Brčko-Bijeljina:- By this road, Bijeljina would obtain highway traffic connection with the Croatia, near Brčko, but also to Serbia, across the Drina, to Šabac, respectively, with Corridor 10. Bijeljina had already been visited by Chinese experts which developed a conceptual design of a highway that has received good marks from the Ministry of Transport. I hope that these projects will be part of a broader economic cooperation, since here in Semberija, we have great economic potential, primarily for food production in the open and in greenhouses, but also for the use of geothermal energy, the Mayor stated. The Mayor accepted the invitation of the Ambassador, that together with representatives of the Regional Chamber of Commerce and the business community, participate in a conference of local leaders of China and Central and South Eastern Europe which would beheld in Prague at the end of August this year, which would be an opportunity present economic potential of Bijeljina to potential Chinese partners.
